I texted a book client of mine the other day. We are sooooo close to being done with her developmental edit of her really heart-wrenching story.
When are we getting back together?
I had a full on mental breakdown. I’m frozen. Can’t deal with anything.
I’m calling you in a few minutes. I’m really good at moving out of fight-flight-freeze.
I called her.
It went to voicemail. So I left a little tough love message.
Hey. It’s Carrie. I may not have gotten into burnout the way you did but trust me when I tell you I know how you feel You want to throat punch someone and cry at the same time. You want to be left alone and cuddle. You want pizza and chips and nothing at the same time. It’s not going away on its own and you’re at a crucial time. Apathy. Call me back.
We connected a bit later and I sent her my all-time favorite guy on YouTube. Brad Yates.
I don’t think she did the tapping video. Instead I got a message outlining everything she was trying to schedule.
Sounds like you’re organizing yourself to do personal things, which is great. Remember that burnout is a nervous system issue due to prolonged exposure to unmanaged stress. Burnout is not going to change unless you work your nervous system out of it. So do the breathing exercises. Do the tapping exercises. And watch the funniest thing you can until you laugh so hard you almost pee your pants. It all helps.
