Dear Gen X women going through perimenopause…

What.

The.

H-E-Double-Hockeysticks is the deal?

Are you ok?

I’m in perimenopause. I’m okay some of the time.

I’ve been in hormonal therapy treatment of some kind for years. After burning out 13 years ago, I had to take supplements to help my body work again. But the last year has been extra.

At the start of 2026, I went from getting a migraine every once in a while to seven to ten a month.

I work with an amazing woman on all things womanly and hormonal, and she said, you know what girlie…I think you need to talk to Neuro and get an MRI of your brain so we can rule out the scary stuff.

Things nobody ever wants to hear, right?

So for MONTHS…I tried to get an MRI but insurance kept saying NOPE!

Too bad, so sad for you..

After lots of crabby calls to the insurance provider and their third-party supplier who actually approves all these things, I learned the insurance provider didn’t think getting a picture of my brain was medically necessary.

I ended up paying cash for the MRI.

The staff was amazing. They acknowledged how scary ruling out scary stuff can be.

And ultimately, the results showed no tumors or white matter.

It’s just perimenopause. I had no idea migraines were a sign of perimenopause. I hear about hot flashes and weight gain and brain fog and fatigue. But migraines weren’t even on my radar. Maybe because I already had them.

If you’re one of the lucky ones who gets splitting migraines while you’re moving through perimenopause, can we be friends? Make sure you have a medical professional to help you.

Xx
